Born in Tehran, Ardalan gravitated toward music early, drawing from traditional Iranian music, classic jazz & rock, and a treasure trove of mixtapes collected while moving between Iran and California. After returning to California in 2006, his distinct taste pulled him into the Bay Area underground and ultimately to the fateful BBQ that became Dirtybird lore, where his early studio exploration with Justin Martin became Mr. Spock, one of the “tracks that made Dirtybird famous.” Since then, he’s built a deep-rooted connection to the dance floor with releases on Toy Tonics, Yoshitoshi, Dirtybird & RDA, becoming a favored act at festivals like Coachella & Desert Hearts, and venues such as Space Miami & Output. His debut album Mr. Good (2019) further defined his sound with a powerful melding of tough, jarring beats and lush melodies.
There are no rules when it comes to good music! Rules Don't Apply Records launched in September of 2021 and has quickly become a trendsetting incubator for promising musical talents. A concept initially manifesting as a radio show, Rules Don't Apply was born out of Walker & Royce's vendetta to share new & exciting music. "We want to support artists we believe in and give them a platform. We want to show the world that not everything needs to fit into a box", says Gavin of Walker & Royce..."We're looking for artists who go the extra mile in their own direction", Sam adds. Rules Don't Apply serves as a gateway to a world just beyond the limits of preconception.
